Remap with VIA
Change any key on either layer from your browser, without reflashing.
VIA remaps keys live over USB. Changes save to the keyboard itself, so they follow it to any computer.
Because the Made of Waves layout differs from Solder Party's stock board, VIA needs the Made of Waves layout definition file once.
What you need
- A KeebDeck running the
viafirmware. Shipped units already have it. - A Chromium-based browser (Chrome, Edge, Brave) for usevia.app, or the VIA desktop app
- The layout file
keebdeck_basic_via.json. Download it from GitHub with the Download raw file button.
Load the layout
- Open usevia.app or the VIA app.
- Open Settings and turn on Show Design tab.
- Go to Design, choose Load, and select
keebdeck_basic_via.json. - Plug in the KeebDeck. In the browser, click Authorize device and pick KeebDeck Basic - Made of Waves.
- Go to Configure. You should see the Made of Waves layout.
Change a key
- In Configure, choose layer 0 (base) or 1 (Fn) at the top.
- Click the key you want to change.
- Pick the new keycode from the menu below. It takes effect immediately.
To put the Fn key somewhere else, assign MO(1) from the Layers tab to the new position.
Undo everything
To return to the factory keymap, reflash the via firmware (see firmware). That resets VIA's stored keymap.
If VIA doesn't see the keyboard
- Check that the keyboard types normally first. VIA can't talk to a board sitting in bootloader mode.
- Make sure you loaded the JSON in Design in this browser. VIA stores it per browser.
- On Linux, browsers need permission to access HID devices. See troubleshooting.
- If you flashed the
defaultkeymap yourself, VIA support isn't included. Reflash theviakeymap.
