Quick start
First plug-in, the Fn layer, and the backlight.
Your KeebDeck ships flashed and tested. There is nothing to install.
1. Plug it in
Connect the KeebDeck to your computer, phone, or single-board computer with a USB-C data cable. It shows up as KeebDeck Basic - Made of Waves and starts working within a second or two.
Use a data cable
Some USB-C cables only carry power. If nothing happens when you plug in, try another cable before anything else.
2. Test every key
Open any text editor, or a keyboard tester such as keyboard-test.space, and press every key once. The keypad is silicone domes: press each key squarely in the center for a clean click.
The three space-bar domes all act as one space bar. Pressing more than one at a time still sends a single space.
3. Learn the Fn layer
Hold Fn (the key at the left end of the home row, where Caps Lock usually sits) to reach the second layer:
| Hold Fn and press | Result |
|---|---|
| 1 … 0 | F1 … F10 |
| - / = | F11 / F12 |
| Backspace | Delete |
| ↑ / ↓ | Page Up / Page Down |
| ← / → | Home / End |
| Space | Step backlight brightness |
The full layout is on the keymap page.
4. Backlight
- Fn + Space steps through the 8 brightness levels, then wraps back to off.
- The backlight turns off after 10 seconds without a keypress, to save power. Any key wakes it back to the brightness you set.
